DEPTFORD TWP. — It's been an up-and-down kind of season for the Salem boys basketball team.

With their fourth consecutive win on Tuesday, the Rams appear to be peaking at the right time.

Eclipsing the .500 mark for the first time since December, Salem earned an impressive 62-50 win over Deptford in a key late season Tri-County Conference inter-division game.

The Rams (10-9) had nine different players score a basket in the game, as Tazmere Martin led with 13 points. Antwan Furbush chipped in with 12 points and nine rebounds, while Daquan Blake and Ramon Roots each had nine points.

Salem led 29-24 at the break overcoming a number of ugly turnovers from both sides. In the second half, Deptford managed to tie the score at 35-35 before the Rams broke the game open to end the third quarter and to start the fourth, when they went on a 15-1 run to take what proved to be an insurmountable advantage. Salem led 46-35 heading into the final eight minutes, and never trailed at any point after the first quarter.

The win was punctuated by a fast-break dunk by Blake with two minutes remaining. However, the game ended on a scary note as Furbush took a hard fall trying to block a shot with under a minute left. He remained down for a few minutes before walking off the court under his own power.

Deptford’s (10-10) prolific scorer Glenn Abbott continued his impressive season as he scored double digit points for the 17th time in 19 games. Abbott notched 12 points in the final 16 minutes and finished with 17 points after sitting on the bench for most of the second quarter.

D’Andre Blue-Eli also chipped in 12 points, while Kevin Clark and Zack Jankauskus combined for 10 points and 10 rebounds.

The Spartans entered as winners of three of its past four games. The win would’ve gotten the team two games above .500 for the first time all season. Deptford is now 3-8 when it scores under 60 points.

Salem, which sits in fourth in the Classic, has three divisional contests left including current leader Gloucester Catholic, a struggling Pitman squad and Pennsville.

Meanwhile, Deptford will close out its season in the tight Diamond with divisional games in four of its last five, including matchups against fellow contenders in Schalick, Cumberland and Penns Grove.
