At Salem's John Fenwick School, and around the world, pinwheels whirl in hopes of spreading the message of peace

SALEM — Students participating in the International Day of Peace and held pinwheels high to imagine “whirled peace” and make a public statement at John Fenwick Elementary School on Wednesday.

Children at the school decorated their pinwheels in art class and spent the first month of school learning the song “I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing,” in music class to prepare for the day of peace.

“They were all excited! Since school started, the kids learned the song in music class and played cooperative games in gym all leading up to today,” art teacher Rebekah Cohen said on Wednesday.
