SHS Helps Earthquake Victims in Haiti | Print |

100_1368.jpgStudents collect more than $1,600 and more than 100 crutches for earthquake victims. 

During January, students at Salem High School worked on a number of different fund-raising efforts to help Haiti. 

Crutch Collection.  They helped in the collection of crutches, which were transported to Cooper University Hospital on Saturday 1/23/10 for the next team of doctors traveling to Haiti, later in the week. Doctors from Cooper University Hospital in Camden have been in Haiti, with supplies including the donations for doctors to distribute to earthquake victims.  Franklin Banks in Salem County, also served as a drop-off location, a total of 101 sets of crutches, four canes, and two walkers were collected.

Other projects included:

A total of $1,077 was collected by students.  A grand total of $1,600 was collected with the help of the staff.  Money was raised by:

  • Bake sale after school.
  • Button sales (students in image editing classes created unique Photoshop designs)
  • Money Jug collection (The four classes competed to raise the most.  The junior class collected the most and was closely followed by the senior class).
  • Student Jeans Day (Friday, Jan. 19, students donated $2 for the privilage of wearing jeans, instead of their unform pants.  Each student received a button.
  • The faculty and Child Study Team at Salem High School also held a Jeans Day on Friday, Jan. 22, and collected $575.   

**Congratulations to the junior class, who will be honored with a bulletin board.

All funds were raised for Haiti relief.  SHS teachers, Suzanne Landolfi and Betsy Brown coordinated the efforts at Salem High School.
