Future business leaders in Salem County take part in leadership conference

The 54th New Jersey Future Business Leaders of America State Leadership Conference was held at the Hilton East Brunswick on March 27 and 28. This conference, Accelerating Achievement, was attended by more than 1,600 students.

Salem High student Abigail Sharp, a sophomore, ran for a New Jersey executive Board Position. She will serve as Southern Regional Vice President for the school year 2014-2015. She is the first state officer from Salem High.

As an executive board member, she will participate in summer training, National Leadership Conference in Nashville, the Fall Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C., State Fall Leadership Conference, and all executive board meetings.

Salem High School's Mya Avant, Destiny Green, Samantha Miller, Gianna Pipitone, Megan Sharp, Abigail Sharp, Serenity Sydnor, Thaijae Thompson attended event with their advisor Suzanne Landolfi. Students tested in areas such as Business Communication, Intro to Business Communications, Desktop Publishing, Public Speakings, Digital Design and Promotion.

Lower Alloway Creek students Emma Boggs, Jenna Waddington, Chloe Hild, and Sarah Sharp were one of three middle school chapters attending the conference.

They tested in Introduction to Business Communications. The LAC chapter started this year with advisors Julie Mahoney and Kristin Ayling.

Julie Mahoney was a Salem High FBLA student and also started the Salem Community College FBLA-PBL chapter when she was in college. She is now a teacher.

LAC was very active their first year with small business plans, Alloway parade booth, UNICEF, Karaoke Social, candy grams, and Toys for Tots. Currently they are collecting funds for March of Dimes and will be participating in the Relay for Life Cancer Walk.

Salem High School chapter participated in Regional Testing Events, worked at the United Way sorting toys, plays bingo with the consumers at the ARC of Salem County, and the held their third ARC Spring Dance in April.
