While remaining proud of our past, we are working hard to create an even brighter future. The Salem City School District and the Salem City Board of Education continue to create unparalleled opportunities for all students. Our students can take advantage of a wide array of Advanced Placement and Honors coursework, Project Lead the Way, Allied Health, and the International Baccalaureate Programme. Our fine arts program aims to be among the finest in the entire region. Students can study dance, art, music, applied technology, and video technology in facilities that are second to none. Like all of our courses, these programs focus on creativity and critical thinking; which is a hallmark of our district’s educational philosophy. A philosophy designed to create 21st century learners: creative thinkers and problem solvers ready to contribute to our global economy.
As Salem High School’s Principal, it is my job to ensure that our entire staff endeavors to meet the individual needs of each unique learner. We will strive each day to provide our students the opportunities and support they need to be successful students and that no child is overlooked. It is imperative that all of our graduates are college and career ready at the conclusion of their four year selected program.
Our entire staff will proactively work with the student body on creating an orderly and disciplined environment through the Positive Behavioral Support and Intervention Services Program. This program recognizes and rewards students for their efforts related to the following behaviors: responsibility, accountability, motivation, and success. This program assists our students on how to apply these character traits in their lives, community, and in their classes.
I look forward to working with all the stakeholders of Salem High School as we go through the 2014-2015 school year.
Yours in education,
John R. Mulhorn
