Salem High School seeks
honorees for its Military
Wall of Honor

Salem High School has developed a Military Wall
of Honor that recognizes all the graduates that have
served or are serving their nation in any of the
military services.
So far, the Military Wall of Honor has graduates
ranging from the 1930s to 2009.
“It gives the military alumni an opportunity to share their
Military experiences,” said Lisa Mutter, teacher-librarian
and SCSD webmaster. “It is a wonderful way for the folks
who have gone through the military to talk to our students
and show the dedication and the idea that it is something
they too, can do.”
The Military Wall of Honor started two years ago inside
the school and has been growing on the website as well.
“The students help find former graduates to recognize, to
go on the wall and website,” said Mutter.
Mutter got the idea after seeing a bulletin board that
Woodstown High School did for their military alumni
including her two daughters.
“I have two daughters in the military,” said Mutter.
“Because of that I am especially aware of the sacrifices made
by the men and women in our Military.”
The wall is to honor as well as help show the current SHS
students that being in the military is honorable, that it is
something Salem High School alumni have already done
or are doing and lastly that it is something they can do.
“The graduates have been contacted through word of mouth
mostly,” said Mutter. “Hopefully, being on the website and and
with the help of South Jersey Times, it will continue to grow, and
friends and family will see it and tell others about it.”
The Military Wall of honor is also a chance for veterans to share
their stories and the history with students at Salem High School.
You can visit the Military Wall on their website,

or visit copies of pictures that are on display in the Salem High
School Granville S. Thomas Learning Resource Center.
