Leon Goose Goslin 23 of 29
Description:

Local baseball great Leon "Goose" Goslin is seen sitting at the lunch counter in Andrews' Drug Store on the corner of West Broadway and New Market Street in downtown Salem.

Goslin was born in Salem in 1900. During his nearly 20-year Major League Baseball career from the early 1920s to the late 1930s, Goslin played for the Washington Senators, St. Louis Browns and Detroit Tigers. Twice his teams won the World Series (in 1924 and 1935). He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1968. After baseball he returned to South Jersey and lived here until dying in 1971 at the age of 70.

This photo is probably from the 1930s or 1940s. (Special to the Times | Russ Bassett)
