πŸ’™ We are so proud to share that Dr. Meghan Taylor and our dedicated special educatorsβ€”Ms. Katie Starn, Ms. Elyssa Haines, and Ms. Carolyn Cartyβ€”joined the Misla-Perez and Coella families at this month’s Salem City Council Meeting!

Together, they officially accepted the Proclamation for Autism Awareness, highlighting our community's commitment to support, understanding, and inclusion for all.

Thank you to the City Council for this recognition and to our amazing staff and families for the work they do every single day! 🧩✨

🦎 Meet "Lecko the Gecko"! Ms. Weather’s Pre-K class has a tiny new classmate! As part of their Pet Study, students are getting some hands-on experience by welcoming Lecko to the room.

What better way to learn about responsibility and animal care than with a real-life class pet? So far, we’ve learned that Lecko is a big fan of:

πŸͺ¨ Napping under his favorite rock

πŸ¦— Snacking on crickets

The kids are having a blast observing their new scaly friend! Welcome to the family, Lecko! πŸ’™βœ¨

πŸ’™April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, a time dedicated to building safe, nurturing environments where every child can thrive. This year’s theme, Pinwheels of Possibility, reminds us of the bright futures we create when we support our young people.

Earlier this month, our SMS community brought this message to life! Our 3rd and 8th graders teamed up to plant a vibrant garden of blue pinwheels in front of the school.

What do the pinwheels represent?

✨ A visual reminder of our commitment to child safety.
✨ The hope and "possibilities" we create when we invest in children
✨ Our shared mission to prevent abuse and promote well-being.

The pinwheel garden will be on display throughout the month of April. Next time you drive by, take a moment to enjoy the view and remember the vital role we all play in protecting our children.

Earlier this month, our full district leadership team gathered at Salem Community College for a dedicated day of planning for the 2026–2027 school year.

We aren't just looking at schedules. We are thinking deeply about what our students need to succeed, what our staff needs to feel supported, and what this community truly deserves. Intentional planning is the difference between reacting to the moment and leading for the future. πŸš€

Stay tunedβ€”we look forward to sharing more as these plans take shape!
