Superintendent's Report - January 2, 2025

I am excited to begin my tenure as the new superintendent of Salem City School District!

In my first 90 days as superintendent, my goal is to learn as much as I can about who we are as a district. I have planned a set of activities that will enable me to:

• Build trust and gain commitment from school and community members;
• Develop a trusting, productive and collaborative working relationship with the Board;
• Learn more about what the historical and recent barriers to authentic collaboration have been so as to create new ways of working together;
• Ensure an effective, efficient, and orderly transition of leadership, keeping the focus on increased student achievement for all children;
• Proactively ensure that all voices, not just those who traditionally avail themselves to collaborate with the school system, are heard and engaged in the process of continuous improvement; and
• Build excitement and momentum for Salem City School District’s mission, and future strategic plan, while also establishing the commitment to continuously improve.

The attached report provides an update on the status of my activities to date. In order to ensure transparency throughout the 90-day entry process, there will be a link on the district’s website to update the community on my progress towards completing the entry activities.

Ultimately, I plan to share my key insights and findings in a final report during the April board meeting.
