Our soon-to-be graduates put on their caps and gowns and took a walk down memory lane for Senior Clap Out! They made their rounds through the halls of the very schools where their educational journeys began.
To see these young adults walking the hallways where they once learned their ABCs, high-fiving their former teachers and inspiring the next generation of students... letβs just say there wasn't a dry eye in the building. π₯Ή

From learning their ABCs and 123s to building friendships and sharing laughs, these little rockstars have grown so much this year. π
A huge thank you to our phenomenal teachers, staff and families for loving, supporting, and guiding our youngest learners every step of the way. β€οΈ

Students and guests had a wonderful time walking the halls, admiring the beautiful creations, getting their faces painted, coloring and enjoying some delicious refreshments! π§π
A special shoutout to our amazing VIP students, who served as tour guides and did a phenomenal job showing everyone around. What a truly wonderful event! β€οΈ

We are incredibly proud to announce that the Salem City School District has been officially recognized by the New Jersey Department of Education as a 2025-2026 Lighthouse Award recipient! π
Out of hundreds of districts across the state, Salem City was one of just nine chosen for demonstrating measurable progress toward equitable outcomes and educational improvement.
Specifically, our district is being celebrated for Expanding Access to AP/IB Enrollment!
The Lighthouse Award recognizes districts that are actively breaking down barriers and opening doors for students. For us, this means expanding student access to Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) programsβgiving our students a head start on college credit and preparing them to thrive in higher education.
As Dr. Lily Laux, Commissioner of Education, noted, programs like this highlight innovative practices that expand opportunities for students across our state so other districts can follow our lead.
This honor is a direct result of the hard work, dedication, and passion of our incredible students, teachers, administrators, staff, and families. Together, we are shining a light on whatβs possible and ensuring every student in Salem City has the tools and opportunities to succeed.
Let's keep leading the way!

Last week, our amazing Salem Middle School and Salem High School students attended the Dare to Dream Conference!
π This wonderful event was all about empowering students, celebrating their voices, and teaching valuable skills in self-advocacy and leadership.
We were incredibly proud to share that Salem High School's very own Annalie F., an 11th grader, served as a keynote speaker for the conference! π€β¨ Annalie did an absolutely phenomenal job inspiring peers from all over the region with her powerful words and leadership.
Our students wrapped up the day feeling motivated, confident, and ready to advocate for their futures and achieve their biggest dreams. You all represented Salem with such pride and excellence, superstars! ππ

This program is a special partnership between the New Jersey Department of Education and Rutgers University. It helps schools take learning out of the classroom and into the local community. Through hands-on, real-world experiences, our students with disabilities will practice important everyday life and job skills to help them become more independent and successful as they grow into adulthood.
Our teachers will receive expert training and support this coming school year to build an amazing, sustainable program right here in our town.
We were so proud to receive this acceptance and can't wait to see our students thrive out in the community! πΌπ

Back in October, our very own Bobbie A. Shuman was honored at the annual NJSBA Workshop in Atlantic City with the prestigious "Unsung Superheroes in Education Award." π
We are thrilled to share that Bobbie was recently featured in the New Jersey School Boards Association School Board Notes newsletter! π°β¨
For 41 years, Ms. Shuman has been a vital part of the Salem City School District family. As our Child Study Team Secretary and Transportation Coordinator, she works tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure our special education students, families, and staff have everything they need.
In her own words: "I used to say, 'I'm only the secretary,' but over time I have learned I'm more than a secretary. I'm part of a very important group of people who care for students with disabilities."
Thank you, Ms. Shuman, for your four decades of dedication, organization, and heart. You truly are a superhero! π¦ΈββοΈβ€οΈ
