School Based Youth Services Program
(who we are & what we do)

The School Based Youth Services Program (SBYSP) is located in host schools and coordinate with existing resources in the community.  All youth are eligible to participate and services are provided before, during and after school.  SBYSP services include: mental health counseling; employment counseling; substance abuse education/prevention; preventive health awareness including pregnancy prevention; primary medical linkages; learning support; healthy youth development; recreation; and information/referral.

We aim to implement prevention and intervention programs that are comprehensive and multifaceted and build on the strengths of young people so they can achieve their educational and life goals.

The New Jersey Department of Human Services’, Division of Family Development is pleased to announce its Annual Teen Media Contest.
See Ms. Kellie Smith for information!

Teen Media Contest

The theme for 2018 encourages students to illustrate – through art or the written word – What Does Your Family Tree Look Like? This concept can be taken literally, abstractly, or be left to the imagination. It shows that each family tree is different and that not everyone has the same type of family background. Each and every person's story is unique.

This year, the contest is open to any middle- or high-school aged student, ages 11-18, in New Jersey. Young artists and writers no longer have to register with their school to enter.
Winners of the contest will have their art featured in the 2019 Child Support calendar. Please see the 2018 calendar for inspiration.

Teens are asked to create and submit a piece of original work, which complements the state's ongoing advertising and community outreach campaign. For 2018, entries will be accepted in the following categories:

  • Hand-drawn or hand-painted artwork
  • Written word (essay, poetry, composition, etc.)

The submissions deadline for the 2018 contest is April 2, 2018.

For additional information and full contest rules, please visit www.NJTeenMedia.org
